A museum in Joshua Tree!

This concept is based on the idea of “art inside” and “art outside.” The art inside refers to the gallery and exhibition spaces, while the art outside is the natural landscape and views surrounding the site. Following the parti diagram, this scheme encourages visitors to move outdoors between different programs. So while people view the art inside, they also experience the landscape as part of their journey. The organization of the programs supports this concept. Key spaces like galleries and the restaurant face the north, west, and south— directions that open up to the main views. The building represents the landscape and shape of the surrounding mountains both in plan and elevation, complementing the idea of art inside and outside. The roof also reinforces this connection, folding to echo the mountain forms while providing diffused natural light for the galleries.
